What is interior design?
Interior design is about creating harmony in a space; not only visually but also how the room works and flows when it is being lived in. Delivering functionality as well as style and meeting the daily needs of each individual household.
So the role of the Interior Designer is to take design theory, and merge it with the users’ needs, to create a beautiful space and delivers the homeowners requirements.
This could be as simple as taking a tricky room layout and creating a cosy new space. Or supporting a large renovation project from the beginning – providing interiors expertise at the build stage to help ensure doors, windows, lighting and sockets, heating options, and storage are considered at the start of the project to avoid costly changes down the line.
Your Home Made Perfect, Grand Designs or Queer Eye
With British TV full of design shows such as BBCs Your Home Made Perfect and Interior Design Masters, Channel 4s Grand Designs and Love It or List It or even the Netflix shows such as Queer Eye and Amazing Interiors, it’s clear we have a healthy obsession with beautiful, well designed homes.
The thing is, we don’t have to limit that obsession to TV binging.
We can absolutely bring the designer look into our own homes, engaging one of the many independent Interior Designers to bring guidance and support to your home decoration project.
A professional designer’s product knowledge, understanding of light and colour, and ability to make a room feel complete can enable you to bring the designer look into your home without having to blow your budget.
And just in many of the above shows, Interior Designers are able to produce 3D sketches or concept designs to enable their clients to visualise what their new space will look like before they commit to spending any money on paint and furnishings.
How much does an interior designer cost?
It doesn’t have to cost as much as you might think…
Design fees range from each designer and depending on what level of service you require. Most interior designers offer flexible packages tailored to a clients individual needs.
Some designers charge a percentage of the project budget, some take commission from purchases and others offer fixed design fees.
At Eleanor Jane Interiors we even offer a fixed price DIY design package which allows homeowners to get professional interior design support, whilst working within a low budget. See services for more information.
Interior Design trends 2020
One of the great things about working with an Interior Designer is that they should know all the latest trends and how to make them work in your home.
2020s take on blue, a darker, more moody scandi-style, crittall style windows and doors and two-toned bathrooms are all proving seriously popular this year.
However, if you have a period property, or existing furniture that doesn’t happen to be on the ‘hot’ list, or you just don’t like this year’s trends, Interior Designer’s are able to deliver a design that works for your preferred style.
A good designer will work collaboratively with their clients, to deliver projects that showcase the clients own unique style and personality.
Your home is, after all, yours. And the best way to relax is to be surrounded by a space that you love.
